Custom kernel 2.6.38.3 32bit packages optimized for atom processors

This package is created in Linux Mint 10 and should install fine in all versions of Ubuntu Linux
10.10 and Linux Mint 10 (should as well in debian squeeze but not sure about dkms)

The build is for 32bit atom processors and should work on any netbook with an atom processor (not sure though about core2 processors as they have different instruction set). I tested it with my lenovo netbook which is nearly 2 years old

Please share if you are able to feel that the processor is running fast with the kernel and you are able to watch 720p movies very well (the kernel has autogroup scheduling enabled and should not feel stressed if you stress it to the limit, the miracle of Linus). I tried in linux mint debian edition and it did not install dkms packages, this should not be the case with Ubuntu or Mint 10 though

The kernel compilation was done on Virtualbox Linux Mint 10 and took around 2 hours to complete (I allocated only 1 core to virtualbox OS). Normally it takes 20 mins for me to build a kernel directly in my system and this made me wait forever to see how this cute atom kernel runs on my netbook. I could see the sound worked perfectly and the clarity of movies was excellent, the feel of the clicks and launching programs was snappy, it maybe my imagination.

The files can be downloaded from the following links and can be checked against the SHA256SUM and MD5SUM given at the bottom of this blog to verify if the correct file is downloaded

  2. I am building core2 optimized 2.6.38.3 kernels for 32bit inside Linux Mint 10 (running inside virtualbox, now gave it 4 cores to speed up compilation)
